Pursuing Sexual Purity: Recommended Resources for All Ages

The temptation to give in to sexual immorality is great — even within the church. No matter your season of life — youth, single, married, or empty-nester, the following sobering statistics paint a grim picture regarding the state of our culture and the fight for sexual purity:

By age 11, the average child has already been exposed to explicit pornographic content through the internet.

93% of boys and 62% of girls are exposed to internet-based pornography during their adolescent years.

22% of the vast quantities of porn consumed by people under the age of 18 is consumed by those under the age of 10.

33% of women aged 25 and under admit to searching for porn at least once per month & 56% have searched for it before.

Fighting for Purity

In order to address this widespread problem and encourage Christian believers in the fight for purity, Crosspoint hosted an EQUIP Forum on Sexual Purity on Friday evening, February 1, 2019. EQUIP forums, such as this one, are part of our church’s strategy to help church members apply scripture to every area of life.

Throughout the evening, Crosspoint members, friends, and visitors not only learned the scope of the problem but also gained a biblical vision for purity and learned how our identity in Jesus Christ fuels the power for change.

A highlight for many was a Q&A panel in which Pastor Jeremy Chasteen with his wife, Liz, Pastor Jason Finley, Abbey Cook, and John Henschen discussed practical ways for a believer to pursue purity whether single or married.

“The gospel is good news for the brother or sister fighting to pursue sexual purity. As we remember, remind, and reflect on our perfect Savior and His sacrifice for us on the cross, our desire for Him increases and the lust of our flesh withers and dies,” Jason Finley said. “As a pastor and a dad, I urge all of our church family to invest time to watch this EQUIP forum and be strengthened in your fight for purity.”

If you were unable to attend, you’ll find the audio, video and accompanying notes here as well as in the Crosspoint App.
